TRENTON — Two Allentown Redbirds Pop Warner competitive cheer teams recently won top spots at the Central Jersey Cheer Competition at Sun Bank Arena in Trenton and now advance to the Eastern Region Central Qualifier this weekend.
Allentown Redbirds Junior Pee Wee cheer squad, which includes girls age 8 to 11, placed first over five teams, in the medium size level 1 division on Oct. 20. This is the second year in a row this squad has earned the Central Jersey Championship title.
The Junior Midget squad, for ages 11-13, took top spot for the medium size level 2 division. This Redbirds team was the 2011 Eastern Region Champion and advanced to the Pop Warner National Cheer Championship for the last two years, placing second in the nation each year.
”These young girls put on an incredible performance,” said Jodi Stewart, head coach of the Junior Pee Wee team. “We are all so proud of them and thrilled to see them rewarded for their hard work and dedication.”
According to Dona Daesener, head coach of the Junior Midget team, the level of difficulty in the routine has increased significantly this year.
”We couldn’t be prouder of how the girls have responded to the challenge and delivered on the mat,” Ms. Daesener said.
With these first place wins under their belts, both Redbird teams advance to the Pop Warner Eastern Region Central Qualifier on Sunday, Nov. 11 with hope of advancing to the Eastern Region Championships Nov. 17 and ultimately the National Championships in Disney, Florida later this year.
The Pop Warner Eastern Region Central Qualifier on Sunday had originally been scheduled for Nov. 4, but had to be postponed due to power outages caused by Hurricane Sandy.
