Election Day was Tuesday. As the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy started to clear, Americans cast their votes for president of the United States — re-electing Barack Obama. The incumbent president defeated Republican challenger Mitt Romney.
Tuesday night, unofficial results were released for local races within the Register-News community.
In Bordentown Township, were there were two seats up, incumbent Deputy Mayor Michael Dauber was defeated while Committeeman John Moynihan kept his seat. They ran against Democratic challengers Kershaw Wetson, who earned 2,079 votes, and Stephen Benowitz, who won a seat with 2,246 votes. Mr. Dauber collected 2,093 votes; Mr. Moynihan had 2,123 votes.
There were two Bordentown Township seats up on the Bordentown Regional Board of Education in a contested race. Howard Barman collected 719 votes; Timothy Hartmann had 1,524 votes; Korrin Durkin received 1,016 votes; Kevin Creegan earned 1,420 votes; and Thomas Dalton earned 1,171 votes, according to the unofficial election results as of press time. Mr. Dalton, resigned from his regional board seat in October.
In Bordentown City, residents had one seat up on the Bordentown Regional Board of Education. Voters elected incumbent member Ellen Wehrman with 777 votes. Board President Joann Dansbury came in second with 409 votes. Newcomer Augustine Martinez collected 222 votes.
The city lost a Bordentown Regional School District seat after the census showed a slight decrease in the city’s population. In contrast, Bordentown Township’s residents increased by several thousand people between 2000 and 2010. Since the census, the city’s school board seats have been reduced to two from three while the township’s seats were increased to six from five, according to a state redistricting in 2011 and in conjunction with the federal Reapportionment Act of 1929.
In Chesterfield, there is one uncontested Township Committee seat up Nov. 6. Incumbent Mayor Michael Hlubik is running unopposed in that race. He is a Republican.
For the Northern Burlington County Regional School District election, school board incumbent F. Gerry Spence, of Monmouth Road, is running unopposed to keep his seat. Chesterfield resident Natalka Pavlosky Weismantel, of Harness Way, is running unopposed for the unexpired one-year seat.
In Chesterfield, there was an uncontested race for the Township Committee, with incumbent Mayor Michael Hlubik receiving 1,341 votes.
There was one full-term Chesterfield seat on the Northern Burlington County Board of Education, where incumbent member F. Gerry Spence won 1,100 votes. Natalka Pavlosky Weismantel received 875 votes to fill the unxpired 1-year Chesterfield seat on the regional board.
There was one seat open on the Chesterfield Board of Education in a contested race. Jennifer Marinello won with 533 votes. Gregg Masters came in second with 356 votes while Terran Brown earned 320 votes for third place.
In Fieldsboro Borough, Mayor David Hansell received 194 votes for a one-year unexpired seat in an uncontested race.
To fill two full-term seats open on the Fieldsboro Borough Council, in a contested races, voters chose Andrew Weber with 153 votes and Amy Telford with 138 votes. Clinton Weaver received 94 votes. Mr. Weaver is a Republican and Ms. Telfor and Mr. Weber are Democrats.
Democrat Jonathan Norcross, of Washington Street, earned 185 votes for the unexpired term on the Fieldsboro Borough Council. He ran unopposed.
Florence was without a local election this year for Township Council.
However, residents voted to fill three full-term seats on the Florence Board of Election, which were all uncontested. Voters elected Anne Lipsett with 2,432 votes, Jean Shelen with 2,324votes and Christine Sweeney Skinner with 2,617 votes on Nov. 6.
Jennifer Ryan Perry, who earned 2,647 votes, ran to fill the one-year unexpired board seat for Florence Township School District.In Mansfield, there were two Township Committee seats up this year and both were uncontested. Republicans
Robert Higgins, deputy mayor, earned 2,602 votes and Alfred Clark, committeeman, earned 2,468 votes.
Laurie Vierling earned 2,031 votes and James Nucito earned 1,790 votes on Tuesday. They ran unopposed to fill two seats to represent Mansfield on the Northern Burlington County Board of Education.
For the Mansfield Township School District, there were two full-term seats, and running opposed, Alison Perrone earned 1,930 votes while Beverly Pencak earned 1,687 votes. According to Burlington County, no one filed a petition to run for the two-year unexpired board seat.
There were two Township Council seats up in Springfield, where John Hlubik and David Frank, both Republicans, kept their seats with 1,192 votes for Mr. Hlubik and 1,052 votes for Mr. Frank, according to the unofficial results from Burlington County.
There were three seats up on the community’s Board of Education for Springfield Township School District. Winning unopposed, Laurie Middleton collected 650 votes, Christopher Corbo collected 680 votes and Michael Ritterman had 654 votes.
In New Hanover, there were two Township Committee seats up as well as two seats up on the Board of Education. Running for the Township Committee seats unopposed was Rick Koshak, who earned 257 votes and Patrick Murphy, who earned 262 votes.
There were two sets open on the New Hanover Board of Education where Linda Lisiewski earned 250 votes and Jennifer Wedeen earned 226 votes.
In a contested race, the Republicans defeated the Democrats to fill two seats on the North Hanover Township Committee. John Kocubinski, of Provine Line Road, in Allentown won 765 votes. Kim South, of Chesterfield-Arney, in Wrightstown won 699 votes. The winners, both from Wrightstown, collected more than 1,000 votes each. Mr. Moscatiello, of Ivy Lane, received 1,134 votes and Mr. Quackenboss, of Edwards Drive, received 1,048 votes.
Wrightstown resident Charles Schroeder, of Hanover Drive, ran unopposed for the full-term seat up on the North Hanover Township Board of Education. He won 988 votes.
