BORDENTOWN A new map that highlights the parks and recreational areas in the township is now available for residents. Deputy Mayor Michael Dauber presented the map at the Bordentown Township meeting Tuesday.
If someone wants to see where the parks in the township are and what amenities are at each one, they’ll be able to use the map which is now at Bordentown Township Hall.
If the township adds amenities to the parks they will be added to the map as well.
Northern Community Park, Joseph Bossert Park, Terry Field, Veterans Memorial Park and Joseph Lawrence Park are the main recreational areas highlighted on the map.
Northern Community Park on Groveville Road is the biggest park in the township, with basketball courts, a gazebo, fishing, baseball fields, tennis courts, walking paths, picnic tables and grills, and two new playgrounds, Mr. Dauber said.
Joseph Bossert Park between Eaton Road and Charles Bossert Drive is a park that needs work, Mr. Dauber said. The Parks and Recreation Committee plans to build a new bridge over the creek and a new gazebo in the park.
Terry Field on West Constitution Avenue has a basketball court, playground, and a ball field, and Seth Hand Park on Palmer Ave. has a gazebo and paths.
Veterans Memorial Park and Joseph Lawrence Park along Route 528, Ward Avenue and Hogback Road is becoming another community favorite with its basketball courts, pavilion, softball fields, playground, a bike trail and an open field. The park is mainly used for softball, but has also become the site for the annual hay ride and this year’s Turkey Trot.
Other open spaces are also scattered throughout the township.
”We’re trying to provide recreation for all age groups,” Mr. Dauber said.
There are plans to create some form of folded brochures with the maps, and the Parks and Recreation Committeewants to put benches, and additional trail maps along the bike paths, he added.
Once the committee’s plan for a bike route is complete, a bicyclist will be able to go from one end of the township to the other on bike trails.
