Garden club to hear
talk on tree pests
    Thurs., Nov. 15 — Neshanic Garden Club meets at 9:45 a.m. at Station House, Olive Street, Neshanic Station. At 11 a.m. Nick Polanin of the Rutgers Master Gardener Program, will speak about the trees on community and state property, with a focus and pests and diseases. ‘A Christmas Carol’
    Nov. 15-17 — Hillsborough High School Theatre presents “A Christmas Carol” at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15, 16 and 17 and at 1 p.m. on Nov. 17 in auditorium of school, 466 Raider Blvd. $12 brings reserved seating. 4-H craft sale
to feature 40 booths
    Sat., Nov. 17 — The Somerset County 4-H Association is hosting its 4th annual vendor and craft sale 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Ted Blum 4-H Center, Milltown Road, Bridgewater. Of the 40 booths, half will be crafters and half vendors.
    Jewelry, home decor, beauty supplies, clothing accessories, food, toys, holiday items, artwork and woodworking will be sold. For information, contact the office at 908-526-6644.
Symphonic band
plays in concert
    Sun., Nov. 18 — The 100-member adult Raritan Valley Symphonic Band will present its annual winter concert, “Seasonal Sounds,” at 3 p.m. in auditorium of Bridgewater-Raritan High School, 600 Garretson Road, Bridgewater. Admission is free and open to the public.
    Directed by Lawrence Markiewicz, the band will perform “A Hanukkah Festival,” arranged by N.J. composer Chris M. Bernatos, as well as Leroy Anderson’s “Christmas Festival” and “Sleigh Ride.”

Holiday soiree helps
Literacy Volunteers
    Friday, Nov. 30 — Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County (LVSC), a provider of literacy tutoring and ESL classes for adults in Somerset County, will present its Literacy Holiday Soiree from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Bridgewater Library, 1 Vogt Drive. The event will raise money to support efforts and programs fighting illiteracy in Somerset County.
    At the event, LVSC will salute the Somerset county Library System for its long-standing support.
    Branches, which include Hillsborough and Manville, provide space and materials used by volunteer tutors and their adult learners.
    Tickets to the soiree are $50 and include wine, beverages, hors d’oeuvres, entertainment, silent auction. Buy tickets at www.literacysomerset.org or call LVSC at 908-725-5430.

    Sat., Dec. 1 — Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Company No. 3 at 324 Woods Road will hold its annual Breakfast with Santa. There are seatings at 8:15 and 10:45 a.m.; reservations are required. Tickets are $9 per person. Breakfast buffet includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, French toast, sausage, ham, hash browns.     Sat., Jan. 19 — Manville-Hillsborough BPOE 2119, 1500 Brooks Blvd. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Raffle begins at 7:30. $10 (includes one free sheet of tickets). No one under 18 admitted.     Alzheimer’s support group — The Alzheimer’s Association has a support group in Hillsborough. Family members and caregivers come together to share information and support in a safe, confidential atmosphere.
    Meetings are the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. in the sunroom at Emeritus Senior Living, 60 Auten Road. Call 431-1300 if attending.
    Divorce support group — A non-denominational support group to help separated and divorced people to a new beginning. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, 7-8:30 p.m., at Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, Route 206 at Homestead Road. 908-295-6740.
