Hire the veteran, beseeched the guest speaker at Monday night’s Veterans Day ceremony in the Garden of Honor outside the municipal building on South Branch Road.
Retired Army Lt. Col. Robert Vicci said that veterans are more than ex-soldiers, but are producers.
“I implore you to look at our soldiers and give them a chance and hire them,” said the director of space preparation at federal business centers.
Noting the 22 percent unemployment rate for veterans, he encouraged employers to “just give our veterans a chance and they’ll do some unbelievable things for you.”
Col. Vicci was the highlighted speaker at the event, which also featured a wreath-
laying ceremony, bagpipe music by Navy veteran Mike Philbin and a 21-gun salute by members of the Hillsborough VFW Post 8371.
A reception inside followed the speeches and music.
