HILLSBOROUGH: Look for him in Macy’s parade on Thanksgiving

Trombonist Blauvelt will march with All-American band

Matt Blauvelt, a senior at Hillsborough High School, has been selected to participate in the Macy’s All-American Marching Band at the Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City.
He is one of about 225 students, representing every state, who will comprise the band that will step off from Central Park and march to Macy’s Herald Square for its national performance of “Lazy River” for more than 50 million TV viewers.
Matt plays trombone and is a member of the Hillsborough High School Raider Marching Band and Wind Ensemble and participates in many extracurricular music ensembles at the high school. Matt plans to major in music education.
He’s the son of June and William Blauvelt.
Students are chosen based on their musical ability and past achievements. Matt said he sent a recording of himself in March playing an audition piece and learned he was selected in April. He’s been practicing the music for the routine for the last month.
He’ll spend nearly a week in New York with rehearsals every day and sightseeing that will include trips to the Twin Towers memorial and Empire State Building.
