Community is invited to free stroke screening

By
Heart disease and stroke are among the nation’s leading causes of death and disability. And while many Americans are aware of the risks associated with cardiac disease, many may not know that 20-30 million Americans are at risk for vascular disease, including stroke, carotid artery disease and aortic aneurysm. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel carrying oxygen and nutrients to the brain is blocked by a clot or bursts, causing the brain to starve.
To help raise awareness about the dangers of vascular disease, Central Jersey Surgeons’ Comprehensive Vascular Center, located in Hillsborough, invites adults to attend a free Carotid Artery Screening to be held Wednesday December 5, from 9:30 to 11:30 am, and from 1 pm to 4 pm. Additionally, a free Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm screening will be held Wednesday December 12, from 9:30 to 11 am; and from 1 to 4 pm.  These non-invasive ultrasound tests may help determine if any narrowing or blockages exist in the carotid arteries, as well as if aortic aneurysm is present.
Many people with vascular disease do not experience symptoms. Therefore, those with the following risk factors may consider attending:
Over age 55
High blood pressure
Diabetes
Smoking
High cholesterol
Obesity
Family history of vascular disease
Heart disease
Central Jersey Surgeons Comprehensive Vascular Center is located at The Courtyard, 611 Courtyard Drive, off of Highway Route 206 North, Hillsborough. Registration is required for the free screenings. Please call (908) 722-0030 to register as space is limited. Free materials on stroke and abdominal aortic aneurysm will be available.
