Raven Players performing "The Odyssey" Nov. 15-17
ROBBINSVILLE — Prepare for the journey of a lifetime complete with magic, romance and adventure as the Robbinsville High School Raven Players bring “The Odyssey” to stage tonight (Nov. 15) in the first of three performances.
This dramatic adaptation of Homer’s myth begins with a modern student who is struggling to understand Robert Fitzgerald’s translation of “The Odyssey.” A classical muse appears and transforms the student into the goddess Athena — a tireless advocate for heroic Odysseus, who is fighting against all odds (and gods) to return home to his family.
With her trademark irreverent and witty twist on classic works, playwright Mary Zimmerman brings to life the story of Odysseus’s 10-year journey, depicting his encounters with characters such as Circe, the Cyclops, Poseidon, Calypso, the Sirens, and others. Odysseus’s journey home will entrance audiences of all ages.
Performances will be held at 7 p.m. in the modern 1,000-seat Robbinsville High School performing arts auditorium on Nov. 15, 16, and 17. Tickets will be sold at the door and cost $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens.
The cast includes students Shannon Tully, Andrew Gart, Bruce Sapp, Demi Demetriades, Justin Giachetti, Marisa Giachetti, Alana Jaskir, Jake McGlew, Sydney Rubenstein, Chelsea Sardoni, Rucha Janodia, Tyler Bowen, Taylor LaCaze, Tommy Griffith, Michael Kowalski, Sarah Williams, Mary Gorman, Brooke Morsell, Carly Ward, and Caroline Maurer.
Ed Holub, an eighth-grade teacher at Pond Road Middle School, will make his stage debut as Laertes, the father of Odysseus.
The director is RHS English and theater teacher Alison Sussman and the student designers and managers include: Kevin King (set); Liz Sheehan (costumes); Hannah Barker (props); Megan Kirkpatrick (stage manager); and Eric Lapp and Alec Swara (assistant stage managers).
Robbinsville High School is located at 155 Robbinsville-Edinburg Road. For more information, contact Mrs. Sussman at [email protected].
