SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Storms delay dinner cruise

By Maria Riegel, Special Writer
South Brunswick High School’s senior dinner cruise was scheduled for Nov. 7, but due to inclement weather, it has been postponed according to co-senior class advisor Anastasia Marcella.
”It was postponed partially because of the state of the township after Hurricane Sandy and also because of the Nor’Easter that came in that night we were supposed to go on the cruise,” Mrs. Marcella said.
According to Mrs. Marcella, the superintendent, Dr. Gary McCartney informed Mrs. Marcella to postpone the dinner cruise to ensure the safety of the 315 students’ attending.
Mrs. Marcella said that the cruise will “be rescheduled sometime in December before the end of the calendar year.”
She said that the cruise would hopefully be rescheduled for before winter break.
The new dinner cruise date will be rescheduled around particular criteria such as the availability of the cruise and students according to Mrs. Marcella.
She said that when rescheduling she must work around the athletic schedule and that her goal is to have all students that signed up to attend still be able to attend.
”We are trying to find a date that fits for the most amount of people,” Mrs. Marcella said. “We have to make sure too many teams will not have games the day we reschedule.”
If there is limited cruise availability for the month of December and too many dates conflict with the athletic schedule, Mrs. Marcella said that the worst case scenario is that the new cruise date will be sometime in January or February.
Mrs. Marcella said that the cruise line that SBHS was scheduled to use, Spirit Cruise Lines, will stay consistent. SBHS will not be switching cruise lines for availability.
All seniors that signed up to attend the dinner cruise will be sailing on the Spirit of Philadelphia cruise ship.
The senior dinner cruise will definitely not be cancelled according to Mrs. Marcella, because of the commitment details between SBHS and Spirit Cruise Lines.
”I’m really hopeful that everybody that intended to go can make it,” Mrs. Marcella said. “I was disappointed that it was postponed, but postponing it was a smart choice because of the weather conditions.”
