Goodwill Home Medical Equipment Gives Donors a Place to Donate and Area Shoppers Access to Affordable Medical Supplies and Equipment
Ewing, NJ – (November 19, 2012) — Goodwill Home Medical Equipment, formerly known as Your ReSource NJ, is pleased to announce the opening of its new location at 18 Arctic Parkway in Ewing, NJ.   A newly-acquired division of Goodwill Industries of Southern NJ & Philadelphia, Goodwill Home Medical Equipment collects and sells refurbished medical equipment at
affordable prices.
Goodwill Home Medical Equipment now encompasses 10,000 square feet of prime retail space near Goodwill’s Ewing-based Store & Donation Center, CVS and Home Depot. It features a donation drop off area; a retail showroom; and a sanitizing and refurbishing center. The new site is more than twice the size of its former location on Industry Court in Ewing.
According to Goodwill Home Medical Equipment Director Geri LaPlaca, the move was needed due to supply and demand. “For seven years, we operated within 4,000 square feet of space,” said LaPlaca. “This highly visible new location has ample room for accepting and sanitizing donations which in turn provides shoppers with an increased selection of high quality and affordable medical-related items.”
Typical items generously donated to Goodwill Home Medical Equipment include wheelchairs, walkers, portable ramps, lift chairs, hospital beds, canes, crutches, and bath and shower items, just to name a few. Once fully sanitized, these goods are sold at drastically reduced costs—translating into huge savings on items that are often not fully covered by health insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. For example, the MSRP for a manual wheelchair is $300-$1,500. At Goodwill, it can be purchased for $50-$150. A cane that retails at $25 can be purchased for $5. And a hospital bed priced at $1,000+ is sold for $129-$199 at Goodwill.
“With healthcare reform taking hold and the need for durable medical supplies and equipment rising, Goodwill is pleased to provide a cost effective alternative,” said Goodwill CEO Mark B. Boyd. “We encourage area residents to give gently-used medical equipment a second life by donating them to Goodwill. We will get medical equipment into the hands of those who need them.”
Goodwill Home Medical Equipment is open for shopping and donating Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.   In addition, all of Goodwill’s local stores and donation centers can now accept medical items as well (please see attached list).   All donations are tax deductible per IRS law.
Goodwill Industries of Southern NJ & Philadelphia is a nonprofit, community based organization. Its mission is to help people with special needs get to work. The large scale collecting and sale of gently-used items in Goodwill’s retail stores fund job training programs and other career services that prepare individuals with disabilities and disadvantages for competitive employment in the community. Goodwill Home Medical Equipment operates as a division of Goodwill Industries of Southern NJ & Philadelphia.
