benefits school choir
   Friday, Nov. 30 — Hillsborough High School Choir and Choir Parents Association basket auction benefits school choral programs in the Commons of the high school. Doors open 6:45 p.m. ; first tickets pulled at 8:30 p.m. Baskets include a Coach bag, Keurig coffee makers, camera and soda stream units. Literacy Volunteers
sponsor soiree
   Friday, Nov. 30 — Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County (LVSC) will present its Literacy Holiday Soiree from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Bridgewater Library, 1 Vogt Drive. The event will raise money to support efforts and programs fighting illiteracy.
   LVSC will salute the Somerset County Library System for its long-standing support. Branches, which include Hillsborough and Manville, provide space and materials used by volunteer tutors and their adult learners.

Kids: Meet Santa
over breakfast
   Sat., Dec. 1 — Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Company No. 3 at 324 Woods Road will hold its annual Breakfast with Santa. There are seatings at 8:15 and 10:45 a.m.; reservations are required. Tickets are $9 per person. Breakfast buffet includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, French toast, sausage, ham, hash browns. Variety show boosts
school debate club
   Fri., Dec. 7 — Variety show will benefit the Hillsborough High School’s Debate Club at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Admission: $5.
Chorus performs
its holiday concert
   Sat., Dec. 8 — The Raritan Valley Chorus will perform its holiday concert, featuring Vivaldi’s Gloria and the Riverside Quartet, at 7:30 p.m. at Hillsborough Reformed Church at Millstone, 1 Amwell Road, Hillsborough.    The concert will also include “Al Shlosha D’Varim, “A Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas” and John Rutter’s “When Icicles Hang.”
   The community-based ensemble of varying ages, backgrounds and careers was founded in 1990 in Hillsborough.
   Garden club to hold
a holiday luncheon
   Thurs., Dec. 13 — The Neshanic Garden Club will hold its regular monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. as part of its holiday luncheon. Prospective members can contact president Janet Gibson at 908-359-0176 for information.
Chanukah party
at Kehilat Shalom
   Friday, Dec. 14 — The community is invited to the Congregation Kehilat Shalom Chanukah party and candle-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. at 253 Belle Mead-Griiggstown Road (County 630). There will be a potluck dinner (dairy/pareve, please) followed by a family-friendly Shabbat service.

their tricky tray
   Sat., Jan. 19 — Manville-Hillsborough BPOE 2119, 1500 Brooks Blvd. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Raffle begins at 7:30. $10 (includes one free sheet of tickets). No one under 18 admitted.    Community theater — “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” on weekends from Nov. 30 through Dec. 16 by the Somerset Valley Players at the theater at 689 Amwell Road (Route 514).    Alzheimer’s support group — The Alzheimer’s Association has a support group in Hillsborough. Family members and caregivers come together to share information and support in a safe, confidential atmosphere.
   Meetings are the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. in the sunroom at Emeritus Senior Living, 60 Auten Road. Call 431-1300 if attending.
   Divorce support group — A non-denominational support group to help separated and divorced people to a new beginning. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, 7-8:30 p.m., at Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, Route 206 at Homestead Road. 908-295-6740.
