Carl Shangle, 56, was charged with driving under the influence and other motor vehicle charges after the 2003 Nissan Altima he was driving struck a utility pole on Federal City Road at 12:40 a.m. Nov. 17, according to police Lt. Mark Ubry.
Patrolman Scott Stein was attempting to stop Mr. Shangle, who was speeding on Federal City Road, when the accident occurred, Lt. Ubry said. Mr. Shangle lost control of his car and struck the utility pole.
The pole snapped, and a guide wire attached to the pole fell across Patrolman Stein’s cruiser. The officer suffered minor injuries, but returned to duty. Mr. Shangle also suffered minor injuries. Neither man was hospitalized.
