MANVILLE: Flood issue is out of bounds, politically

To the editor:
On Monday night, Nov. 12, I attended the Manville Borough Council meeting, and watched as many residents came up during the open public session to voice their opinions. During the course of the session, one matter continually seemed to resurface involving a recent mailing from the mayor and the two candidates running for council prior to the Nov. 6 election. I received this mailing, which struck me as a little too far over the political edge so to speak.
As I have always been told since I got involved with politics, if your name is on a piece of any political literature, you must take ownership of it.
Since these lies mainly focused on one main theme of flooding, I would personally like to offer a little advice to everyone; the flood issue in Manville is not about lost tax revenue, property, or homes for buyouts. The issue is about people. People who have families, pets, and dreams to live the American Dream without added worries. People that have had those dreams crushed many times over, and are clinging on to a last hope and plea for help.
True leaders do not use politics in this matter. Our flood victims deserve much more than that.
