Borough Council members and grateful residents praised Manville’s emergency workers for their work during Hurricane Sandy at the Nov. 12 Borough Council meeting.
Mayor Angelo Corradino thanked everybody “who participated in the repairing and recovering from the storm — from the first responders, fire, rescue, police, Public Works, CERT team and all others involved. They did a tremendous job in communicating and getting this town prepared and then making sure this town was safe during the storm.”
He said volunteer Community Emergency Response Team members were “as crazy as I am” — they were the only ones out when the winds were blowing 80 miles an hour. The mayor said Public Works hoped to pick up all the debris by Thanksgiving.
Councilwoman Susan Asher said, “We are all grateful for the lack of water that the storm brought. Most of the flooding that did occur was water in the basements due to sump pumps not working.”
Councilman Ed Komoroski mentioned the CERT team put in 397 hours during the storm, and the Rescue Squad sent a crew to Union Beach to help for 12 hours.
During the public portion, a few residents spoke about their gratitude to the emergency responders. CERT Director Bob Kaminski told the council Manville was on Channel 7.
He said his comment to the news anchor was “behind every volunteer that was out there during that storm, you had the family that supported them to be out there. They should get a vote of thanks, also.”
