I am urging Gov. Chris Christie, the state Attorney General, the Board of Public Utilities, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, as well as other government authorities, to press charges of criminal and civil negligence against Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) for causing physical pain and mental anguish during Sandy.
Our esteemed governor had the nerve to tell the media that JCP&L was doing a good job. I totally disagree with his rationale. Evidently the governor ignored the old adage, “we learn from our mistakes.”
The mistakes JCP&L made during Hurricane Sandy on Oct. 29 should have even better prepared them for the nor’easter on Nov. 7 that knocked our power out again after power had finally been restored to many homes. Gov. Christie should instead be talking about sanctions and penalties against JCP&L to make certain it never happens again. For starters, have JCP&L held responsible for our food spoilage that was stocked in our refrigerators and freezers and have our loss credited on our next bill. (I have already sent them my bill.) Even better, how about JCP&L canceling one month’s billing?
JCP&L, as well as all other power and lighting companies, were sufficiently warned of the impending devastation Sandy would bring so they had ample time to be better prepared. In my case, after this terrible experience, I think JCP&L stands for “Just Call Performance Lousy!”
