A 23-year-old Lawrence Township man was killed when he stepped in front of a train on the Northeast Corridor tracks, in the area of Lawrence Station Road, shortly before midnight on Thanksgiving Day, according to police Lt. Mark Ubry.
Brian Remde, 23, of Franklin Corner Road, “intentionally stepped” in front of a moving New Jersey Transit train, Lt. Ubry said in a press release.
The Police Department received a telephone call from an AMTRAK operator at 11:10 p.m. that they had received a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a train, he said.
”Upon arrival, police officers located Mr. Remde deceased at the scene,” Lt. Ubry said. “It was determined that a southbound New Jersey Transit train had struck Mr. Remde.
Mr. Remde’s car was found parked in the Lawrence Square Village townhouse development.
About 200 passengers on board the New Jersey Transit train were transferred to another train while the police investigation was underway, Lt. Ubry said. Travel on the rail lines was affected while the incident was under investigation.
The Mercer County Medical Examiner’s Office removed Mr. Remde’s body at 4 a.m., and travel on the rail lines was returned to normal at about 6 a.m.
