SOUTH BRUNSWICK: District collecting for storm victims

By Ed Birch, Special Writer
The Board of Education voted unanimously at its latest meeting to set up collection points at all district school sites for residents to donate needed items to families who have been displaced by Hurricane Sandy.
District employees Buddy Thomas and Jodi Tarvin, who normally work on the annual “Toys for Toys” campaign have switched to “Operation Jersey Shore Santa,” which is a more localized campaign due to aid storm victims.
”The families who have been stricken by this act of God are living in the worst possible conditions at Monmouth Raceway, in tents, without much heat, and without the items that we all take for granted each day of our lives,” Mr. Thomas said during a recent BOE meeting
Ms. Tarvin suggested that residents donate board games, toddler times, arts and crafts supplies, and any gift cards for needy juveniles.
”Their families are also in need of gloves, scarves, hats, pajamas, jackets, blankets, and socks to survive the winter” said Ms Tarvin.
Collection boxes have been set up at all district school locations where families can drop off donations during regular school hours. The district will then deliver all donations to the program headquarters.
Those area residents (or friends) who are interested in assisting with the gift-wrapping can contact Buddy Thomas at (732) 329-2415.
