PENNINGTON: Borough’s engineer gets top award

By John Tredrea, Special Writer
Pennington Borough Mayor Anthony Persichilli was pleased, but not surprised, that borough engineer, Carmela Roberts, has received a prestigious award from her peers.
Ms. Roberts’ firm is Roberts Engineering, based in Hamilton.
The firm landed a first-place award from the New Jersey Society of Municipal Engineers for the construction of a Post Chlorination water tank at a municipal water treatment plant.
The tank’s purpose is to disinfect the water supply.
”Roberts Engineering has been our borough engineer for the past two years and we are very pleased with the quality of work that Carmela Roberts and her staff has been providing to us,” the mayor said Monday. “It comes as no surprise that they have received this recognition.”
A spokesman for Ms. Roberts’ firm said the design for the Post Chlorination water tank has been approved by the state Department of Environmental Protection for use throughout New Jersey.
The project that landed Ms. Roberts the award was financed by the New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust. Ms. Roberts filed the application to that organization for the funding for the project. Her award is in a category of municipalities with a population of under 20,000 residents.
The awards program that has honored Pennington’s municipal engineer recognizes municipal engineers or engineering consultants whose work has contributed in a significant way to public health, safety and welfare.
