HIGHTSTOWN — Open House at The Art Station, 148 Monmouth St., scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is a charitable event designed to contribute to local community organizations HomeFront and Seer Farms.
Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments, musical entertainment, a chance to win a door prize while browsing fine art for sale, of which a portion will be donated to the aforementioned charities.
Formerly a building used to facilitate hay shipments by rail in the late 1800s, the studio building for the last decade has been in operation exclusively as studio rental space, housing 16 artists. The rustic environment is a home away from home for its artists and includes the original, still in working condition, Otis rope-operated freight elevator installed in 1916.
The Art Station hosts a free Open House event, which gives the public a chance to see the unique building and view some of the artists’ studios and their eclectic works, encompassing painting, pottery, drawing, collage, sculpture and more.
Seer Farms, one of the charities represented, is a nonprofit organization in New Jersey whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for families and their animal companions facing major life crises. Located in the heart of Ocean County, one of the areas hardest hit by recent Hurricane Superstorm Sandy, Seer Farms provides a temporary shelter for animals while their families are going through this and other crises.
HomeFront provides preventative, emergency and long-term support services for families who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless.
