CINCINNATI – SBHS and Rutgers Alumnus Mohamed Sanu may be out for the rest of the NFL season, according to the Bengals.
Spokesman Jack Brennan confirmed Friday that Sanu, a rookie wide reciever for the team, suffered a stress fracture in his left foot during practice Thursday and would be placed on the injured reserve list.
Sanu was running routes with his fellow recievers when the injury occured and was not involved in any collision on the field, according to the team’s official website.
According to the team, surgery is scheduled for Monday and would likely mean at least eight weeks of recovery time, three weeks more than the remaining five weeks of the current NFL season.
Despite the prognosis, Head Coach Marvin Lewis opted to place Sanu on the IR list instead of removing him from the roster on Friday, according to the team.
Sanu has emerged as a scoring threat in recent weeks, nabbing four touchdown passes in three weeks and collecting 154 yards, according to the team.
Sanu’s scoring streak began against the New York Giants in October, a week after returning to South Brunswick High School to see his jersey retired, the first in the school’s history.
