The Lakewood BlueClaws have launched the BlueClaws Baseball Academy, a series of clinics and camps that take place during the winter months. They are designed to help local players between ages 8 and 18 get ready for the upcoming season.
These programs will be kept to a small number of players to allow personalization of each session, and each player will receive as much attention as possible. The goal is to develop talent that will lead to better on-field performance.
The Academy’s Executive Director is Joe Agnello, who spent part of the last year working for Major League Baseball (MLB) player development in Asia. He spent four months in Southeast China working at an MLB Development Center helping to develop talent at the national level. Prior to his work with MLB, the Howell High School graduate spent eight years coaching college baseball, most recently at Temple University.
The BlueClaws Baseball Academy will host weekly clinics beginning in December. There will be different clinics for infield, catching, pitching and hitting, plus a College Camp Series, which will cover a wide variety of play and be run by college coaching staffs.
The College Camp Series runs on weekends beginning Dec. 15th, while the other camps will begin in late-January 2013.
Each clinic will be broken down by age group and the number of participants will be limited to maximize individual instruction.
For a full clinic schedule, visit Blue- Claws.com/Academy.
Registration for any clinic can be made by calling Agnello at 732-901-7000, ext. 209, or online. Each clinic is $45 per individual session or $149 for those who book spots in all five weeks.
Agnello can be reached on the phone or by email ([email protected]) with any questions.
All events will take place in the batting cages at FirstEnergy Park. These batting cages are available for rent or for private lessons. Contact Agnello or visit Blue- Claws.com/Academy for more information.
