Fri., Dec. 7 — Variety show with singing, instrumental music, dancing and comedy acts will benefit the Hillsborough High School’s Debate Club at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Admission is $5.
Township tree
to be switched on
Fri., Dec. 7 — The lighting of the township’s official Christmas tree will take place at 7 p.m. at the municipal complex on South Branch Road.
Santa Claus will arrive to welcome everyone. The Hillsborough High School Chorale will perform outdoors, Norz Farms will set up a petting zoo and the high school wind ensemble will play in the multi-purpose room.
Firefighters will
accompany Santa
Sat., Dec. 8 — The Flagtown Fire Department (Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Company No. 1) will escort Santa around Flagtown and the local neighborhood to visit the local children.
Santa will deliver token gifts for children 12 years old and under, as well as candy canes and cheer for kids of all ages. Santa will make his rounds beginning at 9 a.m. Santa’s elves will collect canned goods for the local food bank. Rain date: Dec. 15.
Chorus performs
holiday concert
Sat., Dec. 8 — The Raritan Valley Chorus will perform its holiday concert, featuring Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and the Riverside Quartet, at 7:30 p.m. at Hillsborough Reformed Church at Millstone, 1 Amwell Road. Tickets available in advance by calling 908-526-8769 or by emailing [email protected]. The community-based ensemble of varying ages, backgrounds and careers was founded in 1990 in Hillsborough.
Town menorah
to be illuminated
Sun., Dec. 9 — The Chabad Center for Jewish Life will sponsor the annual menorah lighting at the township complex on South Branch Road at 4 p.m. The theme is “Mad Science Hanukkah.”
Garden club
holiday luncheon
Thurs., Dec. 13 — The Neshanic Garden Club will hold its regular monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. as part of its holiday luncheon. Prospective members can contact president Janet Gibson at 908-359-0176 for information.
Chanukah party
invites the public
Friday, Dec. 14 — The community is invited to the Congregation Kehilat Shalom Chanukah party and candle-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. at 253 Belle Mead-Griggstown Road (County Route 630).
There will be a potluck dinner followed by a family-friendly Shabbat service. The evening concludes with refreshments, Chanukah games and music. Bring a menorah and candles for a group candle-lighting. For info and RSVP call 908-359-0420 or e-mail [email protected].
Grand Ensemble
in holiday concert
Tues., Dec. 18 — The Hillsborough Grand Staff Ensemble’s holiday concert will be at 7 p.m. at Auten Road Intermediate School. Suggested at door: $5 adults, $2 students/seniors, $10 family. New, unwrapped toys and gifts for “Ronald McDonald House” are welcome.
The ensemble is made up of staff and friends of the school district, under the direction of Nancy Ciacciarelli and Marc Angelone. To be featured are a flute solo by Michelle Wetzel, a duet by Marc Angelone and Carrie Lansberry, and a reading of “The Night Before Christmas” by Kelly and Leo Gorel.
Proceeds go to a Hillsborough High School senior who’ll pursue a music degree.
Fire fighters host
New Year’s bash
Monday, Dec. 31 — Hillsborough Fire Company No. 3 is holding its annual New Year’s Eve Bash, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour. Dancing to Marathon Music DJ. Cost is $85 per person for the general public and $75 per person for police, fire and emergency services personnel.
Cost includes an open bar, buffet dinner with prime rib carving station, midnight champagne toast, door prizes, party hats and noise makers.

Thurs., Jan. 3 — Newly elected Township Committee members Carl Suraci and Greg Burchette will be sworn in at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the Biondi township complex on South Branch Road. Other volunteers’ appointments are made. Refreshments follow.
