METUCHEN — The Metuchen Police Department will be conducting its annual 13- week Citizen Police Academy for borough residents beginning in March.
The sessions will begin March 4 and are held at Borough Hall from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday nights.
The interactive program is designed to educate participants about department procedures, guidelines and responsibilities. Topics covered include an overview of the department’s organization and structure, recruitment, training and day-to-day operations.
Participants will be given the opportunity to ride along with a patrol officer, experience firearms and active-shooter training simulations, survey a crime scene and participate in a court session.
The Citizen Police Academy is open to borough residents who are over 21 years of age and successfully complete a background investigation. Class size is limited.
Interested residents may contact police Sgt. David Liantonio at 732-632-8547. The application for the academy is posted on the borough’s website at www.metuchennj.org.
