PRINCETON: Trust presents grant to Pettoranello foundation

The Princeton Pettoranello Sister City Foundation has received an award of $5,000 from the J. Seward Johnson Sr 1963 Charitable Trust.
”We are grateful to the trust for their ongoing support of our foundation’s work to further the sister city relationship between Princeton Township and Pettoranello di Molise and to enhance the quality of life in Princeton,” Eleanor Pinelli, foundation president said,
”This grant will ensure our continued stewardship of Pettoranello Gardens and support for a number of community programs, among them the Italian collections at the Princeton Public Library and the annual spring concert of the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra.”
The J. Seward Johnson Sr. 1963 Charitable Trust provides grants to non-profit organizations in New Jersey and selectively in other parts of the nation. Support is given to programs in the fields of oceanography, substance abuse prevention, cultural enrichment, health and healthcare, water and the environment, education, law and public broadcasting. A portion of the trust’s giving is directed toward civic, cultural and educational activities in Princeton and New Brunswick.
This summer the foundation marked its 20th anniversary by hosting a delegation from Pettoranello di Molise. The anniversary celebration included a concert at the Princeton High School’s Performing Arts Center and visits to Ellis and Liberty islands, tours of Princeton University, Pettoranello Gardens, the Princeton Public Library, and Dorothea’s House. The official welcoming took place at the Princeton Township Municipal Building.
In August Pettoranello hosted a delegation from Princeton for a week of festivities and area tours.
The centerpiece of the foundation’s work in Princeton is the ongoing stewardship of Pettoranello Gardens at Community Park North. The Gardens receive sustained, substantial help from the J. Seward Johnson Sr. 1963 Charitable Trust and productive partnerships that include the foundation board, volunteers, the gift of machines, manpower and funds by Princeton Township and Borough, and from the trust and numerous individual donors.
