EAST WINDSOR: Car slams into restaurant

By Packet Media Group
EAST WINDSOR — Last Friday, a 2006 Toyota crashed into the front of the Dosai Place restaurant in Windsor Hights Shopping Center at 3:13 p.m. Nov. 30.
The business was shut down pending repairs after the accident, according to police.
It reopened the next morning, according to a representative of the business.
Police said preliminary investigation revealed the driver, Frank Slavin, 85, of Monroe, was difficulty parking his vehicle when it became stuck on the concrete curbing.
According to police, Mr. Slavin then attempted to dislodge the vehicle from the curbing and inadvertently accelerated forward into the front window and wall portion of the storefront restaurant.
There were no injuries to the driver or any other individuals and there was no structural damage to the restaurant, police said.
”The driver was unhurt, but shaken by the incident,” said Dick Cunningham, director of public information for the East Windsor Fire Department.
Members of East Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1, under the command of Chief Kevin Brink, were called to assist in securing the scene until a wrecker removed the vehicle from the building, Mr. Cunningham said.
Members of East Windsor Volunteer Rescue District No. 1 were also at the scene.
Police said Mr. Slavin was issued a motor vehicle summons for careless driving.
