Three hundred area Cub Scouts attended the Scouts to the Rescue Camporee at Mercer County Community College in November.
Demonstrations were held by area rescue and fire squads, from both local communities and Mercer County, the state police, Homeland Security and the Coast Guard. Classes were given in first aid, rescue breathing and character building. A major highlight was the landing of two helicopters, one a rescue chopper from the Coast Guard in south Jersey.
Scouts were able to handle rescue dogs, learned climbing techniques with a climbing wall, put on fire gear, practiced rescuing people and animals from trees, and learned knot tying.
