3rd Graders Learn About Astronomy in West Windsor-Plainsboro in a Very Hands-On Way!

By
Third-graders in the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional Schools are learning science in a very innovative hands-on way! Thanks to a $1,600 grant from the West Windsor-Plainsboro Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that funds innovative programs in the school district, all Grade 3 students are learning astronomy in the STARLAB Mobile Planetarium. SKYLAB allows children to have an in-depth look at an unspoiled night sky.  The STARLAB provides visual, hands-on learning experiences for students.
Jeff Grabell, a Dutch Neck Elementary School teacher, and the lead teacher grantee said, " STARLAB" will benefit all  750 Grade 3 students by fostering a life-long love of astronomy and mythology." Along with Jeff Grabell, fellow  teacher grantees are Kerrilyn Lynch (Town Center Elementary School), Joan Reil (Maurice Hawk Elementary School) , Lizbeth Reil (Wicoff Elementary School) and  Ryan Smith (Town Center Elementary School). Teachers attended training over the summer at Raritan Valley Community College to become certified in using the SKYLAB planetarium.
The WW-P Education Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to enhance the knowledge, skills, and competitiveness of our students by supporting strategic educational programs.
