Letter: What really ‘stinks’ in Robbinsville

From: Robert Sokol, Robbinsville
To the editor:
I am writing in reference to the statement by Mayor Dave Fried of Robbinsville (“Mayor defends top aide during raucous meeting” Dec. 6, 2012) directed to newly elected councilman David Boyne in regards to the issue about Business Administrator Joy Tozzi.
The mayor said: “To throw mud at people because it’s politically expedient stinks.” What I believe stinks is that although publicly accused of accepting money and vacations in a case with many verified misdeeds, Joy Tozzi received a back room “investigation” and is allowed to serve as a public official at Robbinsville taxpayers’ expense with the mayor’s blessing. “Good job, Dave!”
What also stinks in Robbinsville is the administration’s encouragement of “for profit” development of public township open spaces — last year Foxmoor, this year the 526/Line Road “sports complex.” What’s next?
Plans for Town Center South do not limit residential units and include recreational facilities, maybe even a pool. At the time of the purchase, the township justified the decision in part as limiting school overcrowding. Now we have an $18 million school bond proposal that couples long needed renovations to actual building expansion.
What’s next? Further tax increases. The various tax breaks promoted by the administration to attract commercial enterprises will increase demand on town services and translate into a call to expand police and fire facilities.
Clearly the voters were happy to support David Boyne, fiscal responsibility and much needed light in Robbinsville. “Welcome, David. We need your help.”
