Seeking marrow donor for Jerry Hurwitz

Taylor Yu Zhong, Plainsboro
This Sunday, a drive to find a matching bone marrow donor for a local leukemia patient will be held in Plainsboro.
Jerald P. Hurwitz was diagnosed with acute leukemia recently, according to his wife, Rachelle Feldman Hurwitz. The couple learned matches are very difficult to locate for minorities.
Rachelle is a West Windsor-Plainsboro school board member, while Jerry is president of Princeton Battlefield Society (PBS) and a strong advocate to preserve the battlefield. He fought against the housing project on the battlefield by Institute for Advanced Study.
While the battle in 1777 was a turning point in Revolutionary War, the current dispute is dubbed as “Einstein versus Washington.” PBS’ effort helped strengthen New Jersey’s standing of “Crossroads of the American Revolution,” got Princeton Battlefield added to America’s 11 most endangered historic sites list, and Rep. Rush Holt’s introduction of the American Battlefield Protection Program Amendments Act to include Revolutionary War and War of 1812 sites. The bill got it passed in the congress in September.
Mr. Hurwitz’s family made so much contribution to our community. It’s time for us to pay back. I encourage everyone to come out and show support to this family.
There is no charge for the event and becoming part of the National Marrow Donor Program. Donations in Jerald Hurwitz’s name can be made to Icla Da Silva Foundation Inc., 11-49 47th Ave., 2FL, Long Island City, NY 11101 or visit www.ida.org.
Be The Match will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Walker Gordon Farm Club House, Walker Gordon Drive, Plainsboro.
