HILLSBOROUGH: Library offers winter break movies for kids

   Youngsters are invited to get out of the house and come to the Hillsborough Public Library, 379 South Branch Road, for movies on the big screen during winter break.
   To be shown are:
   • ”ParaNorman’ (PG, for ages 5 and older) — In the animated comedy-thriller, a misunderstood boy takes on ghosts, zombies and grown-ups to save his town from a curse. Wednesday, Wednesday, Dec. 26, at 2 p.m.
   • ”Secret of the Wings” (G, for ages 3 and older) — Tinker Bell meets Periwinkle and ventures into the winter woods with her and Tinker Bell’s other friends to find the secret of fairy wings. Thursday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m.
   • ”Brave” (PG, ages 5 and older) — In the computer-animated adventure-fantasy film, Princess Merida is determined to make her own path in life and defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Friday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m.
   Note: The library will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 25, and Monday, Dec. 31, and Tuesday, Jan. 1.
   Adult programs (registration required):
   • Monday Morning Moms (for parents/caregivers) — Different topics of discussion along with recommended resources. Jan. 7 at 10 a.m.
   • A mixed-gender ESL conversation group, sponsored by Somerset County Literacy Volunteers, next meets Monday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m. You must know basic English. The program runs through Jan. 14.
   • Book discussion —The featured book of the Friends of the Library discussion is “Defending Jacob” by William Landay. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 7:30 p.m.
   • Acupuncture program — Explore the benefits of a cost-effective way of treating many diseases and disorders. Roger Qian will demonstrate how to improve the quality of life through this ancient practice. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m.
   • Friday Night Movie — “Arbitrage,” starring Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon and Brit Marling, is rated R. Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
   Here are programs for youngsters:
 • Special storytime: – (ages 2-6) — The topic is winter wonderland. Dec. 21 or Dec. 22 at 10 a.m.
   • Lego Buddies (grades 8-12) — Teen volunteers wanted to provide assistance during Lego Club programs. Volunteers earn community service hours. Thursday, Dec. 27, at 2:45 p.m.
   • Lego Club (grades 1-5) — Hang out with other Lego-maniacs and have fun building together. Thursday, Dec. 27, at 3 p.m.
