HILLSBOROUGH: Youngsters to sell stocking stuffers to raise money for autistic kids’ education

Fifth-grader Maya Karkhanis has founded a registered non-profit organization, called The VOWEL Foundation, to raise money for educational equipment and supplies for schools that educate underprivileged children with autism.
She and friends from Woodfern Elementary and Auten Road Intermediate schools helped make a variety of stocking stuffers, including bookmarks, “Reindeer Noses” and “Snowman Poop” as Christmas stocking stuffers. “Reindeer Noses” are malt balls and a red gumball for Rudolph and “Snowman Poop” are mini-marshmallows. They sold them at a fundraiser at Angelo’s Pizzeria and at the Christmas tree lighting at the Hillsborough municipal complex last Friday.
They will have their last fundraiser for the year from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, again at Angelo’s at 435 Amwell Road.
All profits will be used directly to help children with autism get physical, speech, and occupational therapy.
