HILLSBOROUGH: See Titanic artifacts at library on Jan. 12

   A program on the sinking of the Titanic will be presented Saturday, Jan. 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the Hillsborough Public Library, 379 South Branch Road.
   Charles Haas, president of the Titanic International Society, and Robert Martorana, a Hillsborough resident who has appeared on the television program, “History Detectives,” will present a program on the “unsinkable” ship that went down on its maiden voyage 100 years ago. Artifacts from the ship will be shown.
   Adult programs (registration required):
   • Monday Morning Moms (for parents/caregivers) — Different topics of discussion along with recommended resources. Jan. 7 at 10 a.m.
   • A mixed-gender ESL conversation group, sponsored by Somerset County Literacy Volunteers, meets Mondays, Jan. 7 and 14, at 7 p.m. You must know basic English.
   • Book discussion —The Friends of the Library discussion features “Defending Jacob” by William Landay. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 7:30 p.m.
   • Acupuncture program — Explore the benefits of a cost-effective way of treating many diseases and disorders. Roger Qian will demonstrate how to improve the quality of life through this practice. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m.
   • Friday Night Movie — “Arbitrage,” starring Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon and Brit Marling, is rated R. Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
   • The Life & Legacy of Dr. King Jr.— Historian Glenn LeBoeuf will present stories of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how he inspired a nation. Tues., Jan. 15, at 7 p.m.
   Here are programs for youngsters. Registration is required.
   • Baby Songs (newborn to 24 months) — Spend time making music with your little one. Friday, Jan. 4, at 10 a.m.
   • SAT/ACT practice test (grades 9-12) — The free Kaplan practice test is designed to prepare students for the exam. Saturday, Jan. 5, at 9:30 a.m.
   • Stories for 4’s, 5’s and 6’s — A fun family storytime about wolves on Monday, Jan. 7, and bears on Jan. 14. No registration required. 1 p.m.
   • Tail Waggin’ Tutors (grades K-4 only) Each registered child will get 10 special minutes practicing reading skills while Xena, a Therapy Dog International-certified dog, listens. Online registration is not available; call or stop by the Children’s Desk. Arrive early; if you are late, you will lose your spot! Monday, Jan. 7, at 4 p.m.
   • Toddler Time for 2’s and 3’s ABCs— Stories and songs about bundling up. No registration required. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m.
   • Rhyme Time (for newborns to 24 months) — Twenty minutes of nursery rhyme fun. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 10:30 a.m.
   • Teen Advisory Board (grades 6-12) — Help plan teen programs and say what you’d like to see happen at the library — while enjoying treats. Attendance counts toward community service hours. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m.
   • Movin’ Munchkins (ages 3-6) — A creative movement program for the child and parent/caregiver. A library release/waiver must be signed by a parent or the child cannot participate. Forms are available at the Children’s Desk. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 10 a.m. and Friday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m.
   • Math Matters (ages 3-6) — The library and Bedtime Math present a fun-filled math hour. Thursday, Jan.10, at 10 a.m.
   • Story & craft (ages 2-6) — Listen to a story about aliens and create a craft to take home. Friday, Jan. 11, at 10 or 11 a.m., or Saturday, Jan. 12, at 10 a.m.
   • Stories for 4s, 5s and 6s — Family storytime about bears on Monday, Jan. 14, at 10 a.m. No registration required.
   • First Look Books (grades 6-12) — Get a sneak peek at new teen titles before they hit the shelves. Tell the library what you think and take a book home. Monday, Jan. 14, at 5 p.m.
   • Toddler Time for 2’s and 3’s — Introduce the pleasure of books to your child with stories, songs. No registration is required. The topic for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, is birthdays.
   • Rhyme Time (newborn to 24 months) — Join us for 20 minutes of nursery rhyme fun. Tues., Jan. 15, at 10:30 a.m.
   • Learning Adventures — Learn about jungle animals. Tues., Jan. 15, at 4 p.m. for grades K-2 and at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, for ages 4-6.
   • Art Adventures (ages 4-6) — Get creative juices flowing as you learn about color mixing and take your masterpiece home. Wear play clothes — things can get messy. Wed., Jan. 16, at 10 a.m.
