Democratic Alliance has monthly meeting
   Thursday, Jan. 10 — Heather Taylor, an advocate for the adoption of local, county and state laws crafted by the Law and Policy Task Force of the Citizens Campaign, which aims to educate how to navigate the power structure of government and to exercise leadership, beginning with their hometowns, will speak at the monthly meeting of the Democratic Alliance at 6:45 p.m. at Avalon Assisted Living, 393 Amwell Road. Prospective members welcome.
Band parents group collects clothing
   Saturday, Jan. 12 — Used clothing collection sponsored by the Hillsborough Band Parents Association. 10 am to noon at the front entrance of Hillsborough High School, 466 Raider Blvd. Also on Feb. 9 and March 9.

RVCC will detail semester offerings
   Wed., Jan. 16 — Raritan Valley Community College representatives will talk about the spring semester, admissions, transfer opportunities and financial aid in an information session from 5 to 7 p.m. at the library, 379 South Branch Road. Book club discusses ‘extremism politics’

Vaccinate dogs, cats at free clinic
   Sat., Jan. 19 — Free rabies vaccination clinic for Hillsborough dogs and cats. 10 a.m. to noon. Hillsborough Public Works Garage, 21 East Mountain Road (next to the YMCA). No registration necessary. Cats must be in a secure box or carrier. Dogs must be leashed. Snow date: Jan. 26.
Elks reschedule tricky tray fundraiser
   Sat., Jan. 19 — Manville-Hillsborough BPOE 2119, 1500 Brooks Blvd. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Raffle begins at 7:30. $10 (includes one free sheet of tickets). No one under 18 admitted. See inaugural speech at Alliance party
   Mon., Jan. 21 — Hillsborough Democratic Alliance will show a recast of President Obama’s inauguration while enjoying appetizers, pizza and desserts, followed by a discussion of the speech and the national agenda for Obama’s second term. 6:30 p.m. Bring $5/person for pizza and bring a dessert or something to drink. Club to hear details of trip to Holland
   Thurs., Jan. 24 — At 11 a.m. at the Station House restaurant in Neshanic Station, Neshanic Garden Club members will showcase their April trip, led by Master Gardener Marylin Hulme and landscape architect Mary Kay Muckenhoupt, to Holland. The monthly meeting begins at 9:45 a.m. Bring a bag lunch and lug your mug; dessert and beverage only will be served at noon. Prospective members are encouraged to attend. Baseball team hosts pancake breakfast
   Sun., Feb. 3 — The Hillsborough High School baseball team will hold its annual all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at the Hillsborough Municipal Building, 8 a.m.- 1 p.m. Tickets at door are $7 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.

   Community theater — “A Murder is Announced,” an Agatha Christie mystery, plays weekends Jan. 11-27 at the Somerset Valley Players theater, 689 Amwell Road (Route 514). Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2. General admission is $15, or $13 for seniors and students.    Alzheimer’s support group — The Alzheimer’s Association has a support group in Hillsborough. Family members and caregivers come together to share information and support in a safe, confidential atmosphere.
   Meetings are the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. in the sunroom at Emeritus Senior Living, 60 Auten Road. Call 431-1300 if attending.
   Divorce support group — A non-denominational support group to help separated and divorced people to a new beginning. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, 7-8:30 p.m., at Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, Route 206 at Homestead Road. 908-295-6740.
