Laura Friedman of Hillsborough has been promoted to executive director of the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center, located in Bridgewater.
As executive director, Ms. Friedman is responsible for supervising the JCC program and administrative staff and for working with the staff and the Board of Directors in carrying out the center’s mission.
According to David Bunevich, president of the JCC Board of Directors, “Laura has been an integral part of the JCC prior to our opening our doors to the community in December 1999. She is an exemplary manager and leader. Laura is well known and respected by our JCC members, staff, lay leadership and the local community. She has been involved in every aspect of running this JCC for more than 13 years and we are pleased to have Laura at the helm of our agency.”
Ms. Friedman had been associate executive director since 2005. Prior to that, she held the position of assistant executive director. Ms. Friedman joined the JCC as program director in August 1999, prior to the center opening to the community. In this position, she supervised all program staff and worked with them in developing JCC fitness, sports, educational, sports and cultural programming.
The center at 775 Talamini Road in Bridgewater serves Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties, providing fitness, recreational, social, cultural and educational programs. The facility includes an indoor salt-based pool, outdoor pool with dome enclosure during the off season, gymnasium, fitness center, group fitness studio.
