Annual fundraiser benefits Upper Freehold Regional schools
ALLENTOWN The 6th annual Sno-Ball Softball Fundraising Tournament returns Feb. 9 and sign-ups are now under way for players, teams, sponsors and volunteers who want to be part of this perennial winter competition.
The all-day event in which pre-registered teams play softball games in the snow at Allentown High School is organized by the nonprofit Upper Freehold Regional Education Foundation and benefits the district’s public schools.
During this slow-pitch tournament, teams of 12 players play in whatever conditions are present on the fields that day. No snow is removed from the fields and no salt is applied. The double-elimination tourney winds down about 6 p.m.
The tournament features men’s and co-ed divisions, and dual champions will be crowned. There will be trophies, prizes and giveaways, and all participants will receive T-shirts. The cost to register is $240 per team, and because the number of teams is limited, early sign-ups are encouraged.
The deadline for team registration is Jan. 31.
Umpires, volunteers and event sponsors are also needed to make the fundraiser a success. For more information on how to enter a team, volunteer or become a sponsor, go to www.ufref.org.
The Upper Freehold Regional Education Foundation is a coalition of citizens, business and civic groups that raises funds to support educational initiatives that are not provided for in the district’s school budget. The foundation has awarded more than $145,000 in grants over the past five years.
