CRANBURY — The Township of Cranbury has a new mayor thanks to the changes made at the Township Committee’s annual re-organization meeting Jan. 3.
According to committee member David Cook, Glenn Johnson was selected as Cranbury’s new mayor as well as the liaison to the planning board.
”I know that there hasn’t been a real change,” Mr. Cook said. “In terms of (the) planning board, it’s going to be Glenn and myself there.”
Along with Mr. Cook and Mayor Johnson, David Gallagher was also appointed to serve on the board.
According to Mr. Cook, both he and committee member Jay Taylor were sworn in for their new terms where they will serve another three years on the committee.
Mr. Taylor and Mr. Cook were re-elected in Nov. after beating Republican candidates Thomas Connelly and Cynthia Smithers.
According to Township Clerk, Kathleen Cunningham, Mayor Johnson appointed resident Thomas Connelly as the second alternate for the Parks Commission at a special meeting held on Jan. 7.
The new mayor and committee also made several other appointments for the New Year according to the resolutions passed by the township committee during its meeting.
Ms. Cunningham was appointed as the Mayor’s representative along with Jane Holland and was also appointed to the Housing and Community Development Board. Ms. Holland was appointed to the Library Board of Trustees.
Along with Ms. Holland, both David Fletcher and Andre Mento were re-appointed to serve on the Library Board of Trustees.
Thomas Patterson, David Nissan, and Marilee Meacock were re-appointed to be on the Zoning Board, with Mike Dulin being selected as the first alternate. Sean Deverin was appointed at Jan. 7’s special meeting to be the second alternate on the Zoning Board.
Cheryl Coyle and George Smith will again serve on the Board of Health, and Audrey Smith was appointed as Township Historian as well as being appointed to the Cultural and Heritage Commission.
Barbara Rogers, John Reinfelder, and John Persico were re-appointed to serve on the Environmental Commission while Paul Giroux and Ira Katz were also appointed to serve on the commission.
Ms. Rogers was appointed to serve as chair of the commission.
In addition to serving on the Environmental Commission, Ms. Rogers was also appointed to serve on the Parks Commission. Joan Smith and Christine Rogers were also re-selected to serve on the Parks Commission.
The next township committee meeting will be on Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
