HOPEWELL BOROUGH: Knights is chosen as council leader

   Republican David Knights and Democrat Debra Horowitz, who were elected to three-year terms in November, took office again at the Jan. 2 Hopewell Borough Council reorganization meeting.
   Mr. Knights was selected again as council president at the session. He has been picked for that post since 2004.
   During his brief mayoral address, Paul Anzano thanked the council for its work and cooperation in 2012.
   He also thanked the many volunteers who serve on boards and committees and provide emergency services.
   Congressman Rush Holt, Freeholder Anthony Carabelli, state Sen. Shirley Turner and state Assemblyman Reed Gusciora attended the meeting.
   One-year appointments made at the meeting included that of Mr. Gusciora as prosecutor, John Holliday as public defender and Lee Engelman as alternate public defender.
   Also appointed for one year were Beverly Weidl as municipal historian and Herb Ruehle as clean communities coordinator and recycling coordinator.
   William Baumbach was appointed to the library board of trustees for five years. Ms. Horowitz was appointed for one year.
   Michele Hovan, who also is borough administrator and clerk, was appointed to the Planning Board for one year, as was Councilman David Mackie. Wyatt Pratt was appointed, as an alternate member, for two years.
   Appointed to the Historic Preservation Commission for four years were Jennifer Smitt and Michael Mills. Mark Dolan was appointed as an alternate member for two years.
   Jill Reichmann was appointed to the Board of Health for three years.
   Richard Smith was appointed emergency management coordinator for a year. Ms. Hovan and Joseph Novak were appointed deputy coordinators for one year.
   Ray Disch was appointed to the Economic Development Commission for five years.
   Judy Jengo, Joseph Miko and Councilman Sean Jackson were appointed to the Hopewell Valley Open Space committee for a year.
   Ms. Hovan and Robert Lewis were appointed to the Hopewell Valley Senior Advisory Board for a year.
   George Mislar was appointed to the Shade Tree Advisory Committee for three years. Ms. Horowitz was appointed for one year.
   Hopewell Valley Green Team appointees for one year are Ms. Hovan, Hugh Connolly, Jennifer Curtis and Ms. Horowitz.
   Appointed to the county board of human services for one year was Lottie Doveman.
   One-year appointments to the Central Jersey Transportation Forum were Ms. Hovan and Dennis O’Neal, who has been the borough engineer for many years.
