ROBBINSVILLE: Sharon School, RHS robotics fight hunger

ROBBINSVILLE — The high school’s robotics team, with help from Sharon Elementary School, set a new record in their annual food drive to restock the Robbinsville Food Pantry by collecting 1,749 nonperishable grocery items.
Although the entire K-3 elementary school took part in the food drive, special recognition was given to Sharon Martin’s first-grade class for collecting 342 items, the most of any homeroom in the school.
The robotics team rewarded the first-graders for their generosity by hosting a pizza party and presenting Ms. Martin’s students with a laser-engraved plaque created by a team member in the high school’s Digital Fabrication class.
The Robbinsville Girl Scouts had stocked the shelves of the Robbinsville Food Pantry just before Thanksgiving, but in order to ensure there was a continuous supply of food through Christmas, supervisor Renee Burns asked the robotics students, whose official team name is Nemesis 2590, to help out as well.
On Dec. 3, the robotics team delivered the food, restocked the shelves and even reorganized all the canned goods for better efficiency.
