SOUTH BRUNSWICK:Cops: Dayton man brought knife to school

   EAST BRUNSWICK — Police charged a Dayton man with brining a knife to the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School on Jan. 11.
   According to East Brunswick police, alumnus James Prendergast, 24, of Dayton, stopped by to visit the East Brunswick campus around 2:30 p.m..
   A Janitor at the facility reportedly saw Mr. Prendergast put a knife into his pocket as he exited his vehicle in the school parking lot, police said in a press release.
   The janitor alerted Patrolman Kevin Bolch, who was working in a security detail at the facility, that the former student might have a weapon, according to the release.
   Patrolman Bolch spoke to Mr. Prendergast and discovered a knife in his pocket, police said.
   Mr. Prendergast was taken into custody and charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and disorderly conduct.
   He was processed at East Brunswick Police headquarters and then lodged in at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick in default of $5,000 bail, according to police.
   Police said that Mr. Prendergast never took the knife out of his pocket or threatened anyone at the school while he was there.
   No other weapons were found in his vehicle, police said.
