Despite pouring rain, South Brunswick High School students held a Dance-A-Thon Friday night to raise funds for the Hugs-For-Brady Foundation.
The Hugs for Brady Foundation is a locally based charity that supports children and families who are battling cancer.
According to Kelly Boyer, Student Council Advisor at the Ridge Road school, participants were asked to come up with a team name and dress the part with the hopes of winning prizes like “Best Team Costume.”
Teams names “Go For the Gold” and ‘Neon Print” were some of the interesting choices in the competition.
Local businesses sponsored the event by donating some of the prizes. Best Buy and Confectionately Yours were among the major sponsors, according to organizers.
Senior Alyssa Kirsch raised $145 in donations to win the title of “Largest Donation.”
“Students and high school staff danced the night away and in the end, the donations broke the $1,000 mark,” Ms. Boyer said.
She said the event will become a yearly fund raiser at the school.
“I am very proud of our high school students for taking some time from their busy weekend to participate in a project like this and support a local charity,” Ms. Boyer said.
