A $5,000 grant from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office led police to arrest 22 people in a crackdown around the community’s motels, according to a press release from the department.
The county’s Community Concerns Grant provided the resources for the police department to increase patrols around motels and hotels in the municipality from Sept. 20 to Dec. 27 and led police to make 22 arrests, according to the release.
Those arrests included fugitive warrants, drug possession and drunk driving, according to the release.
Police have been working with the establishments to build a better relationship and to allow guests to feel safe and have access to law enforcement, according to the release.
For the past year or so, police have been cracking down on criminal activity taking place in the various establishments, according to officials.
Chief of Police Raymond Hayducka has met with the owners and managers of several establishments during that time, following a spate of reported criminal activity.
The grant resulted in 621 checks at motels on routes 1 and 130 as well as increased patrols in the area, according to police.
