EAST WINDSOR: Shiseido to expand

EAST WINDSOR — Recently Mayor Janice Mironov announced that Shiseido America is undertaking a 72,988-square-foot two-phase expansion of the current 211,000-square-foot facility on Princeton-Hightstown Road, which has approximately 150 full-time employees and up to an additional 150 temporary employees.
Ten full-time employees will also be added with the expansion.
Phase I is a 54,580-square-foot office addition to the existing warehouse building, while Phase II is an 18,408-square-foot addition behind the existing office building, a township release said. Phase I will include additional parking spaces, a storm water management basin, a widened driveway and an expanded loading area.
The expansion will allow the company to handle a gradual shift of distribution from its Oakland, New Jersey, facility to East Windsor.
The warehouse and manufacturing additions will increase space for the handling of the Company’s innovative cosmetics brands, including Shiseido, NARS and Bare Escentuals, and increase distribution capabilities on site to more efficiently handle the export of products manufactured at the East Windsor facility to Europe and Asia.
The additional space also will allow the facility to move their loading docks inside to accommodate an efficient floor loading system. Shiseido anticipates completion of work by mid-summer 2013.
”Shiseido is one of our preeminent companies and community-minded corporate neighbors, and we are excited that East Windsor is such a great location to grow their company. Shiseido’s continued success and decision to expand illustrates East Windsor’s business attractiveness, and will add tax dollars and new jobs for our community.” Mayor Mironov said. “With a long company history of promoting and protecting our green environment, the corporate leadership and staff of Shiseido America has set an admirable model for businesses in our community and around the world.”
Shiseido America President and Chief Operating Officer Edward Houlihan stated, “Shiseido is proud to have worked closely with Mayor Mironov and the Township for over a decade and is very appreciative of the partnership we have established with East Windsor’s local officials. We are hopeful that we will continue to deepen our productive relationship with the community and continue to expand our presence and business activities in East Windsor for years to come.”
Mr. Houlihan added, “East Windsor’s strategic location also provides easy access to major piers, airports and highways, enabling our company to efficiently distribute products domestically and internationally.”
Shiseido America, a subsidiary of the Japanese-based corporation Shiseido Company LTD, established its operations in East Windsor in 1998 and serves as a manufacturing center for the company, the release said. In 2010, Shiseido in East Windsor received a New Jersey Environmental Excellence Award for reducing reliance on traditional sources of electricity by 80 percent through the installation of a roof-top solar array, a modest sized ground-based array, and various energy-saving initiatives. Shiseido Company LTD, the fourth largest cosmetics company in the world, develops upscale cosmetics, personal care items, toiletries, sun care products, fragrances, professional salon hair care products, pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals.
