The Manville Senior Citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the VFW on Washington Avenue. Residents of Manville age 50 and older are eligible for membership. Also, persons who do not remain residents of Manville are still eligible for membership.
Canned goods or nonperishable food items will continue to be collected before each meeting, as well as soup labels. Remember to bring one item per member to help stock the Food Bank.
Blood pressure screening is held before the beginning of each meeting for members.
Manville Deputy Clerk Patty Zamorski installed the new officers for 2013 at the Jan. 10 meeting. Congratulations and success to all officers and committees in the coming year.
President Joe Patero outlined his agenda for the year, as well as some new ideas. Hospitality Chairperson Ann Foeri went over our new luncheon program with the first one — punch and sandwiches — a success. The February menu will be tomato soup and grilled cheese. Ann is also working on entertainment and speakers for the meetings.
Keith McCoy, assistant director of the Somerset Country Library, and Ed Smith, director of the Manville Library, will be the guest speakers at the Feb. 14 meeting.
Dues for 2013 have been increased to $10 and should be paid by Feb. 14 to Nick Trilone.
Recreation events
• Atlantic City — Trips are on the second Wednesday of the each month. The next one leaves from the VFW parking lot at 9 a.m. Feb. 13 and goes to Showboat Casino. The cost is $30, which will be returned. This trip is open to the public by reservation only. Make a reservation with Josephine Pschar at 908-722-0156.
