South Brunswick resident Andrea Craparotta has been appointed the interim director of the police department at Middlesex County College, Edison.
Craparotta, the acting captain with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, has 25 years of experience in law enforcement.
She has been with the prosecutor’s office since 1990 and has experience investigating homicides, sex crimes, child abuse, bias crimes and narcotics.
“The challenge is always to make sure we maintain a safe and secure campus without disturbing the academic environment,” Craparotta said. “I think we’re up to the challenge. This is a strong department with good people.”
Craparotta was appointed under a shared-services program between the college and the prosecutor’s office.
She will be paid by the prosecutor’s office and maintains her rank, but will work at the college campus full-time.
Craparotta holds a master’s degree in education from Seton Hall University, South Orange, and also graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.
She has served as an adjunct faculty member at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown.
She is a certified instructor with the New Jersey Police Training Commission and has taught various aspects of law enforcement to audiences throughout the tri-state area.
She is a past president of the New Jersey Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association and is on the executive board of directors of New Jersey Women in Law Enforcement.
