FLORENCE: Tragedy delays police ceremony

FLORENCE — The swearing-in of Police Chief Al Scully and Capt. Brian Boldizar has been postponed until the Feb. 20 council meeting at 8 p.m.
The council adjusted the ceremony due to the recent death of Mayor Craig Wilkie’s mother, Leatrice M. Wilkie. Ms. Wilkie, who was the wife of former mayor Howard Kenneth Wilkie, died Jan. 15 in the Helene Fuld Medical Center in Trenton at age 89.
After Chief Scully and Capt. Boldizar are sworn in that Wednesday night, a celebration will follow the ceremony at Roebling’s old fireman hall, which is now known as the Main Street Community Center.
In other news, council President Jerry Sandusky praised the new Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 130, which held its grand opening last Saturday. Mr. Sandusky said he, along with many other township employees, attended the opening that morning.
”It’s a very spacious and nice building,” Mr. Sandusky said. “We had a chance to see that and be part of it.”
Also, Florence recently has won an economic development award from the Burlington Chamber of Commerce. Two members of the council will be attending a ceremony April 22 to accept the award on behalf of the township.
