A Jackson woman was arrested Jan. 24 and charged with stealing money from the Charleston Springs Golf Course in Millstone, according to the Monmouth County prosecutor’s office.
Acting Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said Carol Hobbs, 34, is charged with third-degree theft for allegedly stealing greens fees.
As part of her duties as a golf ranger at the course, Ms. Hobbs was responsible for maintaining the cash register in the pro shop, collecting the greens fees and managing golfers’ schedules for beginning their rounds of golf, the prosecutor said.
An investigation revealed Ms. Hobbs would modify transactions so that it appeared golfers who paid for a round of golf had received refunds, when in fact they had neither asked for nor actually received refunds, the prosecutor said. After modifying the transaction, Ms. Hobbs retained the money, the prosecutor said.
An audit revealed that Ms. Hobbs stole more than $3,000 from September through December 2012, the prosecutor said.
Ms. Hobbs was being held Jan. 24 in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold Township in lieu of $5,000 bail set by Superior Court Judge Thomas F. Scully.
