SPOTSWOOD — Borough officials are looking to fill a vacancy on the Borough Council.

The borough will be accepting résumés for the position until Feb. 4 and candidates will be interviewed at the Feb. 20 council meeting.

Borough Council meetings are typically held on the first and third Mondays of the month. Caucus meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. and are immediately followed by the regular meeting. All meetings are held in the Spotswood Municipal Building, located at 77 Summerhill Road.

Whoever is appointed to fill the vacancy would have to run in the Nov. 5 election for the unexpired term, which ends on Dec. 31, 2014.

The vacancy was created upon the election of Councilman Nicholas Poliseno to the position of mayor on Nov. 6.

Poliseno, a one-term councilman and former Spotswood volunteer fire chief, narrowly defeated longtime council President Curtis Stollen in the mayoral race by approximately 250 votes.

In a recent interview, Poliseno likened the borough’s system of municipal government to the relationship between a president and Congress.

The municipal government in Spotswood operates in a nonpartisan fashion, which includes the mayor and five council members being elected on a nonpartisan basis for four-year terms.

The mayor serves as the chief executive and oversees the administration of municipal government while the council is the sole legislative body.

Anyone interested in filling the vacant seat can provide a résumé to Patricia DeStefano, municipal clerk, or send it by email to [email protected].
