SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Education foundation announces grants

   The Education Foundation of South Brunswick Township, Inc. recently announced some $11,400 in grants for the 2012-2013 school year.
   Foundation member and former Board of education member Martin Abschutz made the announcement during last week’s board meeting.
   The non-profit foundation formed several years ago to help fund district needs and initiatives as well as provide scholarships for graduating seniors.
   It holds several fundraising events throughout the year including a wine tasting at a local business and a bicycle tour in the spring.
   Mr. Abschutz said the foundation set several new records this year awarding 14 of 28 grant applications for a variety of projects throughout the district’s schools.
   So far, the foundation has awarded about $59,000 in grants and scholarships, according to Mr. Abschutz, including $10,000 to graduating seniors’ last year.
   This year’s winners include; Debra Bevan, Second Grade Cubs Reading Club at Constable, $ 1,000, Michelle Amoia, Wildlife Observation Area, Brunswick Acres, $970, Ailish McGrath, iPlan: Plan Today for Financial Success Tomorrow, SBHS, $464.99, Dr. Arvin Gopal, High Quality Audio and Video Recording for the SBHS Orchestra Program, $998.99, Jennifer Kipnis, 21st Century Learning in the Elementary Art Room, Greenbrook, $998, Kelli Zicha, Student Weebly Accounts, Crossroads South, $60, Lindsey Fisher, (1st Grade Teachers) Sundance Book Library, Cambridge, $994.62, Carol Rodek, Gray Smart Responders, Brooks Crossing, $389, Susan Pazinko, Smart Responders, Brooks Crossing, $1,000, Brianna Logan, Viking Closet, SBHS, $1,000, Shaun Ruymen, Shooting DSLR Video, SBHS, $1,000, Donna Sichta and Kathleen Kirby, Positive You!, SBHS, $999.76, Thea Dahlberg and Gail Magid, Early Childhood Digi Blocks, Greenbrook, $1,000, and Christina Santowasso, Through My Eyes, SBHS, $500.
   Mr. Abschutz said the foundation would report back to the board later this year regarding scholarships for graduating seniors.
