S.E.E.D. Male Mentoring Brings Off-Broadway’s “Black Angels Over Tuskegee” to Trenton
In a Time of Great Challenges, Play Inspires Young and Old Alike to Soar
Trenton, NJ – In honor of Black History Month and to bring a message of empowerment and hope to a city in distress, Trenton-based S.E.E.D. Male Mentoring, an initiative of E.E. Jenkins Ministries, will bring Off-Broadway’s award-winning “Black Angels Over Tuskegee” to the Capital City for two performances on Friday, February 15. Layon Gray’s docudrama provides an historical account of how 6 brave men united in brotherhood to achieve a communal vision and conquer isolation and prejudice to become the most highly respected African-American fighter group of World War II.
As a reflection of S.E.E.D.’s commitment to “Heal the City – Fighting for Our Youth,” a free matinee for students will take place Trenton Central High School’s main campus at noon. A public performance will be held at 7:00 pm at Patriots Theater at the War Memorial (1 Memorial Drive, Trenton NJ 08608). Individual tickets are $20.00, and proceeds will help defray the costs of S.E.E.D.’s 2013 College Tour to Historically Black Colleges and Universities in Atlanta, GA as well as benefit the E.E.Jenkins Ministries Scholarship Fund that offers financial assistance to promising, in-need students. Tickets may be purchased online at www.healthecity.org or by calling 267-528-5781. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
Teaming with S.E.E.D. to help bring “Black Angels Over Tuskegee” to Trenton is Isles YouthBuild Institute (IYI), a program that engages disconnected youth and promotes “self-reliance through education.” Equipping students to attain their high school diploma or GED as well as develop job readiness and effective life skills (609-341-4700, www.isles.org). Also sponsoring the performances is UIH Family Partners, the Garden State’s oldest child welfare dedicated to the welfare of children. The agency works to “Empower New Jersey’s men, fathers and families to achieve self-sufficiency” through programs and services including workforce development; parenting education; GED prep; anger management; and much more.
