South’s theater to host new musical’s premiere

   WEST AMWELL — The Downtown Players, part of Lambertville’s Downtown Performing Arts Center, are gearing up for the world premiere of “Legally Blonde The Musical, Jr.”
   Set for two performances, the brand new musical — based on the hit Broadway show and movie — will be performed on Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. at the South Hunterdon Regional High School’s theatre, 301 Mount Airy-Harbourton Road, West Amwell.
   With book by Heather Hach and music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, the new musical is an abbreviated version of Broadway’s recent hit, “Legally Blonde The Musical. “
   The story centers on the character of Elle Woods, a girl who appears to have it all. When her life is turned upside-down after getting dumped by her boyfriend, she decides to get serious about her life and attends Harvard Law in an effort to win him back. She struggles with her peers and professors, but along the way makes lifelong friends and realizes her potential ultimately setting out to prove herself to the world.
   This production of the “Junior” version of “Legally Blonde” is a pilot production officially licensed by Music Theatre International (MTI). MTI, the New York theatrical licensing agency holding the performance rights to this show. They specifically chose Lambertville’s Downtown PAC as the first group to perform the show.
   Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students (16 and under) and can be purchased at the door prior to each performance.
